Mandatory Equipment
There are 2 parts to the mandatory equipment - Personal
Mandatory Equipment and Team Mandatory Equipment. Other than items
classified as 'on-person', any team member can carry any or all of the personal
and mandatory equipment. "On-person" items must be carried by each
competitor on their person at all times.
Personal Mandatory Equipment
The team must carry one of these items for each person. All competitors
will need to supply their own mountain bike and helmet, food and water.
- 1 x whistle - On-person
- 1 x bike helmet (bike legs only)
- 1 x emergency blanket (space blanket)
- sufficient water (capacity to carry at least 2 litres)
- 1 x all weather jacket - must be waterproof, windproof and breathable
fabric. Permitted fabrics include Gore-Tex, Repel, HydronautePro and HydroFoil.
Fabrics that DO NOT meet the minimum requirements include Epic Pertex, Activent
and plastic rain coats.
- 1 x long sleeve top. Must be of thermal material eg. polypropylene or
wool - not cotton.
- 1 x beanie. Must be of thermal material eg. polypropylene or wool - not
cotton. Buffs are permitted
Each person must also carry Australian ambulance cover or an Australian medical
insurance policy that includes ambulance cover.
Team Mandatory Equipment
Each team must carry at all times during the event the following team mandatory
equipment:
- 1 x mobile phone – each team is responsible for providing a dry
bag or method to ensure their phone is kept dry
- 1 x first aid kit - min of 4 x crepe bandages (min width 7.5cm, min length
2.3m unstretched) OR 2 x crepe snake banadages (width 15cm, length 1.5m
unstretched), 1 triangular bandage, 2 sterile dressing, roll strapping tape
- Water Purification eg tablets or purification filter
- 1 x 30ml sunscreen
- 1 x pencil
- 1 x permanent marker
- 1 x compass
- 1 x headlight - functional and water resistant.
- 1 x waterproof wrist watch
- 1 x bike repair kit (bike legs only) - min 1 pump, spare tire

Recommended Equipment
The following are recommendations only. They are not compulsory.
- 'Sea to Summit' brand A4 size waterproof mapcase or an Alosak bag to
protect your maps. Nothing else will keep your maps dry.
- Hat - broad brim to protect from the sun
- Extra compass
- appropriate clothing and footwear - be prepared for all weather conditions
- food/drink
- sunglasses
- gaiters
- map board for bike
- additional bike repair items
- bike odometer - this will really help in the bike navigation.
Provided Equipment
AROC Sport will provide:
- kayaks, paddles, life jackets;
- all abseiling and roping gear if required
- maps, instructions and control cards
- timing cards
You may bring your own paddles and PFDs. PFDs must be rated as type II or
III. Inflatable PFDs are not permitted.
Equipment checks will be carried out at registration. There will also be
random checks during the event. Failure to carry any one mandatory item will
result in a 15 minute time penalty.
The event is being held in the mountains. The weather can be extreme. It
could be really hot or it could snow. It gets cold at night. Make sure you
come prepared for all weather conditions.
