Competitor Information

Rider List

To see who is riding <click here>. This will also show you your race number and estimated finish percent in field (this determines our start group - see below). Note: You can sort by clicking at the top of the column you wish to sort by.

Wave Starts

When you enter you will be required to indicate where you expect to finish in the field. This determines your start group. You can check what percentage group you selected by logging back into your registration (there will be a link on your confirmation email). From the tables below you can work out which start group that relates to.  Your actual start group will also be listed on your race number plate which will be colour coded for your start wave.

You must start in the start group that appears on your race number plate as the timing system requires this for you to get an official result.  If you start in an earlier start group than that specified on your race number plate you will automatically be disqualified.  This will not be corrected later.  If you are late for your start the results will also show you as disqualified however this will be corrected post event but possibly not prior to the presentations.

Cut-off Times

There are cut-off times for both the 50km course and the 100km course at the locations below. These cut-offs will be strictly applied as if you do not meet them you will not finish in the light. Do not base your pace on just making the cut-off times. If you do, you will not make the cut-offs later on in the course.

If you reach a certain point after the cut-off time you will be asked to stop at that location and will be transported directly to the finish.

100km Course - cut offs:
Feed Station 1- Kowen Forest (40km) - 11:15am
Feed Station 2 - near Dickson College (65km) - 1:30pm
Untimed section restart (Black Mountain) (71km) - 2:15pm
Feed Station 3 - Stromlo (90km) - 3:55pm
Finish - 5:30pm

50km course cut offs:
Feed Station 1 - Sttomlo (26km) - 11:00am
Finish - 5:30pm

Timing Tags

The timing tags are attached to the back of your race number which you will collect at registration. Your race number plate must be secured to the front of your bike with the zip ties provided in your registration pack. Emergency contact number and other event numbers are printed on the back of the race number. Please make sure you use all three zip ties and secure the number properly by feeding each zip tie through both holes. Use two of the three bigger zip ties to attach the top edge of the number to either the brake callipers or handlebar (whichever allows for the timing tags on the back of the number to be as free from touching anything as possible). Use the smaller zip tie to attach the bottom edge of the number to a brake or other cable.

The final attachment of your race number should look like this:

Competitor Briefing

The Competitor Briefing document is a very important document which all competitors must read. It contains everything you need to know for the event. Importantly, at the end of the briefing document is the Indemnity Form which you need to print out, sign and bring with you to registration.

The 2013 Competitor Brief is available <here>. Please make sure you download this and read it as it has all the information you need about the event.

Copies of the Competitor Briefing will be displayed at registration. You will NOT receive them in your registration bag. If you need your own copy please print it out and bring it with you.

Transportation/Logistics
As you know (well we hope you do!), the Capital Punishment is a point to point race which does mean some organisation and thinking ahead. With this comes the logistics of getting back to your car or home once you've finished. The easiest way to do this is to convince a friend or loved one to drop you at your start and meet you at the finish! Or to team up with some other riders and do a car shuffle. However should this plan not work there are other options.

Car Shuffle – The parking at Stromlo Forest Park (the finish) will open on Friday afternoon between 5pm and 10:00pm and on Saturday morning between 4:30am and 6:30am. Leave your car at the finish and get a lift to the start with a friend or fellow competitor. Then once you’ve conquered your distance, had a rest and gotten some good quality tucker into you, drive your friend back to the start. While AROC will have staff at Stromlo Forest Park overnight and the gates will be locked at 10:00pm, we do not guarantee the security of your vehicle and possessions.

Mini Buses with bike trailers – There are a number of mini buses towing bike trailers running a shuttle service from the finish back to the 50km start (Arboretum) and the 100km start (Kowen Forest). This service will run between 10:30am and 6pm. It is strictly a first come, first served basis. Each bus will have capacity to take 16 bikes.

Ride - If you are staying in Civic and doing the 50km event it is approximately 8km to the start at the aboretum. Your hotel will be able to give you directions.

Transport Notes - It is over 25km from Civic to the 100km start via Canberra Airport and Queanbeyan. While Whereis says this will take 24 minutes by car we recommend that you allow 50 minutes. When leaving the 100km start please turn left onto Kings Hwy (towards Bungendore) and use the HQJOC roundabout (which is clearly marked) to do a u-turn towards Canberra. The exit of Millpost Rd is dangerous and as such there will be no right turns allowed onto the Highway.

Drop Bags - There will be a drop bag service from the start (both the 100km start and the 50km start) to the finish. A bag will be provided in your registration pack for this purpose (please note that NO other bags can be used). You will need to write your race number on the bag with a thick black permanent marker.

Parking at Registration -
Underground parking at the Casino
Parking area opposite The National convention Centre on Constitution Ave (at the Civic Pool)
Parking area opposite Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) on Constitution Ave
Free parking on the streets to the east of Glebe Park and Coranderrk St

Riders' Support/Spectators - permitted at Feed Station 2 on the 100km course (at 65km on the bike path near Dickson College). <click here> to see a map giving the location. This is within the untimed section of the 100km course and will be a great point for support crew to meet up with their riders. There will be a coffee van and food van available.

For a google map showing the location of the 50km and 100km start, the finish and registration at Crowne Plaza <click here>.

Note that start location of the 100km at MillPost Rd is not on most maps. There will be plenty of signs off Kings Highway. If this helps the Longitude and Latitude are:
Lat - 35.32335406712042
Long - 149.37848567962646
